Blackboard Ally

HuskyCT Blackboard Ally measures the accessibility of content in HuskyCT, alerts the instructor to accessibility issues, and suggests remediation strategies (e.g., alternative formats, addition of tags).

 

Center for Students with Disabilities

The Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD) ensures individuals with disabilities have the same access to programs, opportunities and activities at the University as all others. Students register with the CSD to request accommodations.

 

Closed Captioning

Faculty members working with eCampus to develop fully online courses can arrange for closed captioning and transcription services.

Faculty teaching flipped, hybrid/blended and in person courses should contact Academic IT – Audiovisual Technology for audio and/or video closed captioning and transcription services.

Hearing Assist

The Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD) loans out, on a semester-by-semester basis, Frequency Modulated (FM) systems to students who require an assistive listening device in the classroom.

 

Web Accessibility Consulting Service & PDF Remediation

Provides services which identify any digital accessibility issues and suggest remediation strategies to bring websites into ADA compliance.

Classroom Audiovisual Technology

All generally scheduled classrooms are equipped with standard classroom technology that is maintained and refreshed by ITS. These classrooms are controlled by a touch panel on the teaching station, which gives the user full control over all audiovisual features in the classroom.

 

Examsoft

Examsoft is a software for creating, administering, and analyzing assessments. Exams are taken offline while locking access to other applications on the computer. Examsoft also provides an extensive range of reports, and rubrics and iPad apps are available as add-on features. 

Note: Currently only the School of Pharmacy has a license to use Examsoft.

iClicker

iClicker is a system which allows instructors to poll students in class. Students use either clickers or the smartphone application to answer and instructors can then view individual answers or overall distributions of the class’s answers.

 

Kaltura

Kaltura is a cloud-based media capture and storage application.  This application is integrated with our classrooms and Husky CT, the University’s learning management system. Kaltura provides instructors with the capability to record their lectures in enabled classrooms and using their personal computers.

 

Poll Everywhere

Poll Everywhere is an app, which instructors can use to poll students during class. Students can answer in class real-time via phone, Twitter, or web browsers.

 

REEF Polling by iClicker

REEF Polling is the mobile classroom response system that allows students to use a smartphone, tablet, or laptop to vote in class.

 

Wireless Presentation

All UConn Classrooms have a wireless presentation device that allows instructors to share content from their Apple device using AirPlay, Google device using Chrome Cast, and Windows machines and Android devices using the Mirror Op application.

Blackboard collaborate

Blackboard Collaborate is an online collaborative learning solution. The tool is tightly integrated with HuskyCT, the University’s learning management system, and its features complement the existing functionality of HuskyCT. Collaborate also has in-session tools, such as breakout rooms, an interactive whiteboard, application sharing, polling, and a hand-raising feature, that enhance engagement and the face-to-face feel of online classes.

 

Cisco WebEx

WebEx is an online conferencing tool that enables you to hold meetings and share data, presentations, and online demonstrations. WebEx lectures or meetings can easily be recorded, and the video files can uploaded into Blackboard courses. Learn how to use WebEx

 

Videoconference Classrooms and Conference Rooms

Video conferencing facilities are available at all UConn campuses. The video conferencing systems allow UConn to connect one or more sites regionally, nationally, and internationally for scheduled classes, administrative meetings, and other conferences.

 

Google Hangouts

Google Hangout is a unified communications service that allows faculty, staff, and students to chat, call, and video conference with others via their Google + accounts.

 

Microsoft Teams

Teams is a communications platform that enables instant messaging, audio and video conferencing, and online meetings. As a Microsoft product, it also displays real-time presence information, including photos, availability status, and location. UConn faculty and staff can use the full Teams client for web conferencing and instant messaging. Students and all non-UConn users can use the free web-based Teams Web App client, from Windows or Mac, to access meetings hosted by UConn faculty and staff.

 

VoiceThread

VoiceThread is an online application that facilitates multimedia presentations and asynchronous discussions. Participants can comment at any time on the material using a webcam, audio, or text.

Qualtrics

Qualtrics is a web-based software for creating and administering surveys and analyzing results. In comparison to the Blackboard Survey Tool, Qualtrics provides more advanced features such as auto-number questions, email triggers, quotas, translations, scoring, and more.

 

Student Evaluation of Teaching

Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET) is online evaluation system. At the end of every semester, students have the opportunity to evaluate each professor by course either in or outside of class via smart phones, tablets or laptops.

 

Survey Monkey

Survey Monkey is free, online survey software. Sign up for an account to create and manage surveys. Recipients do not need an account to respond.

 

Survey Tool - Blackboard

Professors can use Blackboard Survey Tool through HuskyCT to anonymously poll students. The surveys are similar in format to tests given through HuskyCT, but are not scored. Instructors can view who has completed the survey and download the results & statistics based on the results.

Poll Everywhere is a web-based audience response system that enables you to embed interactive activities into presentations. Sign up for a free account to use.

 

REDCap

REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure, web-based application designed to support data collection strategies for research studies. REDCap allows research teams to rapidly develop custom online surveys, case report forms, data reports, and export data to common statistical analysis software. REDCap access is available to all UConn Students, faculty and staff. Note: Funded research studies are required to pay a support fee. Fees are waived for students that do not.

PeopleSoft

The Student Administration System (SA) organizes and distributes student data to the departments at the Storrs and regional campuses and professional schools. The system supports the University business processes of academic advisement, admissions, student financials, financial aid, and student records.

 

SafeAssign - Plagiarism Detection Tool in Blackboard

SafeAssign is an Add-on in Blackboard, which can be used to monitor for plagiarism. Professors can require students to submit assignments through SafeAssign. SafeAssign then compares the assignment with existing works and academic papers.

 

Portfolium

Portfolium is an e-portfolio network that enables faculty, staff, and students to collect and showcase examples of their work and competencies with faculty, classmates, and employers. It integrates with HuskyCT.

360° Video/VR

Faculty can record immersive videos using equipment from CETL. We have a multiple camera setup that can capture your surroundings in 360°. Lightboard Recording Studio

The Lightboard Recording Studio uses a special setup that enables presenters to create a video that displays both content they have written or drawn on a glass surface and their face.

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) offers teaching seminars each semester to help interested faculty, graduate students, and instructors improve their teaching effectiveness and course management skills.

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) consultants can provide all UConn faculty at all campuses supportive and formative feedback about ways to enhance courses.

HuskyDM is the data repository and reporting tool that enables UConn faculty to document their university related activities throughout the year and generate university required reports.

 

Teaching Enhancement Plans

Faculty members from all UConn campuses can meet with a CETL faculty development specialist for support and advice on their teaching techniques and strategies. The review and resulting report is confidential.

Proctor U

ProctorU is an online identity management and proctoring service. Remote proctors are available to assist test takers throughout the assessment and can answer technical or service questions. The service keeps test-data secure by collecting directory information over a secure connection and can accommodate individuals with most disabilities through one-on-one coordination with the university.

 

Respondus Lockdown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser is a browser used for creating a more secure testing environment.  The custom browser disables features such as print, copy, other websites and other applications.  Instructors can require students to use this site when testing through HuskyCT.

 

Testing Center

The UConn Testing Center is a 65 computer station lab for faculty to deliver online exams to students. Scheduled exams are closely monitored by UConn proctors.

 

Test Score Scanning

ITS provides exam scoring of multiple choice exams up to 200 questions and five different versions. Student exams are scored against an answer key provided by the professor. Online and printed reports listing student grades or item analysis are provided.

 

BYOD Testing

For faculty looking to move away from paper exams or Scantrons, online testing is available through HuskyCT. Online testing can be offered in the classroom or as at-home assessment. For faculty wishing to administer online testing in the classroom (BYOD testing), UConn’s ITS has verified that all lecture classrooms have WiFi capabilities sufficient to support this testing.

Nexus

Nexus is a University of Connecticut web application built to complement the university’s decentralized student support services and to enhance communication and information sharing between students, staff, and faculty. Tools include appointment scheduling, note sharing, event registration, and much more. Nexus data analytics support early intervention efforts as part of the university wide effort to increase student success.

 

Blackboard Mobile App

Blackboard (formerly Bb Student) is the mobile app for HuskyCT that is recommended for students. With this app students can view, complete, and submit assignments, quizzes, and tests. If you have the myUConn app, this app is already installed on your device.

 

CLAS PPC

An online program which allows students to change their majors within CLAS.

UConn Anyware

With UConn AnyWare, faculty, staff, and students can use university-licensed software online. After installing the Citrix Receiver client for Mac, Windows, iOS, or Android, you can launch available software from supported devices with a network connection.

Noodle Tools is a Google Apps citation builder. It generates formatted source lists and citations in MLA or APA style.

 

RefWorks

RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic management program that can generate a works cited page in multiple bibliographic styles (e.g., APA, MLA) and integrates with the UConn Libraries' research databases. You can also create a personal database of citations and share it with others using RefShare.
